Stake President
Matt Beeler is the stake president of the Mesa Arizona South Stake. He is married to his sweet wife and best friend, Misty. They were married and sealed in the Boise Idaho Temple in 1998. They have lived in Mesa since moving here in 2002 and have raised all their four children in the stake.
President Beeler served a mission for the Church in northwestern Argentina (Argentina Salta Mission) from 1994 to 1996. His missionary experience in that beautiful land with those wonderful people had a profound impact on him, and it reinforced his testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the certainty that God loves all His children. He continues to have a great love for all Heavenly Father’s children and a passion for sharing the blessings of the gospel with people everywhere.
President Beeler loves to spend time with his family, whether that’s hiking or skiing in the mountains, wake surfing or wakeboarding at the lake, working in the yard, or just talking together around the dinner table.
According to President Beeler, “What I love most about the opportunity to serve in the stake is meeting with the remarkable Saints and pointing them to the Savior. I am constantly in awe at His willingness to love, to forgive, to strengthen, to reveal, and to heal. I’m humbled to serve with so many consecrated and faithful friends who seek to live higher and holier lives as disciples of Jesus Christ.”
First Counselor
President David Brubaker, currently serving as the 1st Counselor of the Mesa AZ South Stake, loves AZ! When they were first married in the Laie, HI temple in 1996, he and his wife Kahanu had no idea that the Lord would lead them to the deserts of AZ, they are glad He did! They have raised their four children in Mesa and have planted their roots deep and are glad to call it home.
Some of President Brubaker’s favorite things are the scriptures and working with the youth. He has taught religion classes to high school students for 22 years. If you’ve ever seen hundreds of youth crossing the street at the high school headed to the seminary building class, those are some of his students and he loves it! He is constantly amazed at the goodness, faith, and way that the youth live and love the two great commandments to love God and love their neighbor as themselves (Matthew 22:37-40)
As a missionary in Antofogasta, Chile, President Brubaker developed a great love for the Spanish language and an even greater love for the people and cultures of South America. His son’s served their missions in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic so Spanish is spoken in their home frequently. They’ve come to know and love muchos amigos queridos here in Mesa.
President Brubaker and his family can’t decide which they love more: camping, hiking, hunting and fishing in the mountains or surfing, boogie boarding, shell finding and sunset watching at the beach. For now they are blessed to enjoy both!
One of President Brubaker’s favorite teachings is what Jesus taught in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” There is much in the world that tries to rob us of the peace and rest which Jesus can give, but because of Him, we need not be troubled or fear. His peace can bless, heal, comfort and teach us all.
Second Counselor
Jason is the 2nd counselor in the stake presidency. In 1995, he married his High School sweetheart Melissa in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He said that was the best decision he ever made! Together they have six children (four boys and two girls) and two grandchildren, with more on the way. The Dicksons have lived in the stake since 1998, and they love being part of this wonderful community.
President Dickson is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys being with his family in nature. Whether it’s in the mountains, at the river, camping, cliff jumping, or just taking a nice drive, being outdoors is always a plus for him. He also loves playing the drums and listening to music with a good beat.
President Dickson served in the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission from 1992-1994, where he developed a deep love for the people in that part of the country. More importantly, this is where his testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and His loving atonement grew. Being able to witness how the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the loving plan of our Heavenly Father blesses and brings true happiness to individuals is a lasting memory for him.
Associating and serving with some many wonderful people in the Mesa South Stake is something that he has always cherished. President Dickson said “The faithfulness and dedication of those that live in this area inspires me. The light of Christ definitely shines brightly here!”
